Patron of Reading
John Dougherty, our Patron of reading, came to visit on the 8th of October. He wowed both our children and teachers, with his creative story telling, his musical performance and passion for reading.
During the day, he visited our Nursery and Reception classes, reading one of our favourites-There's a Pig up my nose. He then read extracts from Stinkbomb and Ketchup face to the rest of the school, during our whole school assembly-which the children thoroughly enjoyed. John was happy to answer questions about his life and story writing habits. Playing his guitar, singing and signing copies of his brilliant books.
During the afternoon, he worked with a group of very excited children, to develop their skills when reading aloud. He shared with them, some of the principles of great story telling. Including, using gesture, timing, pace and volume. John also talked to class Inspire and encouraged them to write their own song lyrics. He promised to add the music to these lyrics and perform their song when he returns on the 24th March.
Keeping in touch with our Patron.
Class Curie have been keen to keep in touch with John, sending him letters and Christmas greetings. They wrote special messages, telling him all about their own reading habits and asking further questions about characters in his stories. In November, John sent them a special video message, answering their questions and letting them know what he's been up to.
Class Curie, along with the rest of the school can't wait to see John again in March.
